Did you know sugar is an addictive as heroine or cocaine? There are a few different reasons why we crave sugar such as fatigue, hormonal imbalances, stress but the most importantly lack of sleep makes your body crave sugar to keep energy up throughout the day as it’s an easy source of energy. Sugar is digested quickly so your body will end up craving more and more to keep up the sugar high!
Here are some secrets to end those nasty sugar cravings:
- 1. Avoid Processed Foods. Processed food like Oreos could be extremely addictive! Eating sugar artificially stimulates a part of your brain called to produce dopamine, the pleasure neurotransmitter. Rapidly after eating sugar your domapine levels will drop leaving you feeling dull or sad. As you can probably guess this leads to your body wanting MORE and MORE! Eat whole food in it’s most natural form and avoid food that comes in packages and boxes!
- Sleep More: Getting 7-8 hours a night will give your body enough energy to get you through the day with less cravings for sugar.
- Keep Blood Sugar Levels Even: When you go too long without eating your energy levels and blood sugar levels drop leaving your body to crave sugar to get it back up. Eat 5-6 small meals throughout the day. Make sure you include protein (eggs) in your breakfast every morning.
- Drink Loads of Water: Being dehydrated may be tricking your brain into craving sugar. Keep a water bottle by you at all times and sio often!
